    Ischemic Heart Disease

WHAT IS ISCHEMIC HEART DISEASE (IHD)?

Ischemic heart disease (IHD), also known as coronary artery disease (CAD), is a condition that occurs when there is a reduced blood flow to the heart muscle, usually due to atherosclerosis (the buildup of fatty deposits, or plaque, in the coronary arteries). This reduced blood flow deprives the heart of oxygen and nutrients, which can lead to chest pain (angina) or even a heart attack (myocardial infarction) if the blood supply is severely restricted.
