Outsmart diabetes with these yoga poses

Today, diabetes has become ubiquitous. It can affect anybody, regardless of gender, age or genetic history. As pas studies, India is the world’s diabetes capital with 61.9 million people suffering from diabetes mellitus.

The three major causes of diabetes is believed to be a sedentary lifestyle, improper diet and chronic stress. All of these factors are what modern life is made of, which is why even the millennials are suffering from diabetes.

However, even though India is the diabetes capital, it also has the answer for treating this condition. And the answer lies in yoga, which originated more than 5,000 years ago. As one of the leading naturopathy resorts in India, Nirvana Naturopathy & Retreat encourages people to practice yoga for not just managing, but also curing diabetes at a holistic level.

Below given are some of the simple poses that helps in managing diabetes without the need of pills.

Reclining bound angle pose

This is a restorative pose that helps to calm the nervous system. This pose also helps in reducing stress, which leads to reducing the blood sugar and blood pressure levels. It is also known to stimulate the bladder, abdominal organs and kidney. For this asana, you need to sit and bring together the sole of your feet. With your knees out to the sides, lean back until you are flat and hold the pose.

Legs-up-the-wall pose

This is another pose that can help lower your levels of stress, along with blood pressure and blood sugar. It can boost your energy, enhance circulation and relieve headaches. For this pose, you have to sit against a wall and put your legs up, against the wall. Your body needs to form a 90-degree angle against the wall.

Upward-facing dog

To practice this pose, you need a lot of muscular strength. This asana stimulates the abdominal organs, promotes weight loss, boosts circulation and lowers blood pressure levels. For this pose, you need to lie down on your stomach and extend your legs behind you. Your forearms must be perpendicular to the floor and you need to come onto the tops of your feet. In your elbows, you need to keep a slight bend as you engage your arm, thighs and abdominal muscles.

Supine spinal twist

Along with stimulating the abdominal organs, this pose alleviates stiffness and pain from the back, spine and hips. For this asana, you have to lie flat on your back, extend your arms to your sides and bring your knees to your chest.
