Facial Yoga – Does This Debatable Exercise Really Work?
January 15, 2018 by Admin
Youthful-looking skin in just minutes with no invasive procedures or expensive creams – isn’t this the dream of every woman above the age of 30? Facial yoga to the rescue!
If you are also worried about the wrinkles around your face and the fine lines, you will too fall in love with this new exercise trend, called facial yoga. This is a method of stretching and breathing exercises that is specifically designed to firm up and rejuvenate muscles and tissues of the face.
As bizarre and absurd as it may sound, women swear by this yoga for their beautiful skin and glow!
However, just calling it facial yoga is actually slightly misleading. The reason being that this yoga involves a lot more than just the face; it even involves exercising the neck and head, along with practicing several stress-relief and breathing techniques, as well as, traditional yoga postures. Simply put, it is the whole package.
BUT, THE MAIN QUESTION IS – DOES FACIAL YOGA TRULY WORK?
Surprisingly, it does and given below are the reasons why:
- Tones facial muscles: Just like any other parts of the body, when the muscles of the neck and face are exercised regularly, they become toned.
- Increased blood flow: Since the nerves and muscles are being stimulated on a daily basis, it helps to improve the blood flow to the face area resulting in the stimulation of collagen production that is responsible for keeping the skin tight and making it less prone to wrinkles.
- Relieves tension: One of the most important reasons behind wrinkles and fine lines is stress and tension. Since yoga helps to clear the mind and relax the face, it helps to reduce those lines and wrinkles.
Even though there are very little medical evidence to support facial yoga, but this hasn’t stopped the celebrities from adopting this technique. After all, usage of anti-aging creams and invasive procedures leave behind permanent damages that cannot be undone.
So, if this piqued your interest and you would like to give this a try at home, here are few of the fairly simple exercises that you can try out. For the more complex ones, do refer to yoga practitioners. Here we go
- Eyebrow lifts: Start by raising your eyebrows as high as you possibly can and hold that position for at least five to ten seconds. This process is to be repeated five to ten times every session.
- Nose wiggle: To get rid of the lines on your nose, you need to wiggle your nose by making use of all the other muscles in your face. Before you move on to the next exercise, make sure to wiggle for a few seconds.
- Smile push-ups: With three middle fingers of each of your hands, put a little pressure on your cheeks. While you are pushing down, try to smile as aggressively as you can so that your cheek muscles get involved. You need to repeat this exercise five to ten times for every session.
- Mouth stretch: This is a very easy exercise. All you have to do is open your mouth as widely as you can and stick out your tongue to the maximum. Hold that position and repeat it as many times as you can.
- Neck exercise: For neck workout, you need to first find a place where you can sit comfortable. Now, sit up straight and pucker up your lips. Push your lips out as much as you can. This is going to help to work the muscles in your neck.
- Long face: The main aim of this exercise is to make you stretch your face as long as you can. Begin this exercise by raising your eyebrows and then opening your eyes widely while also attempting to frown. Stay in that position for 5 seconds and repeat it again.
If you can manage to adopt the above-mentioned facial yoga exercises as your habit, there is no reason why you will not be able to enjoy smoother and wrinkle-free skin. You just have to remember that this is an on-going process and it will take some time for the results to show.
So, what do you think? Does face or facial yoga really work? Have you tried it before or know anyone who has? Whatever your suggestion or views are, do not hesitate to mention in the comments below.
