Don't Let Bad Body Odor Ruin Your Life! Here are 3 Home Remedies that You Can Try.

Mild body odor is not abnormal, especially after a hard day at work during the hot summers. But, unpleasant or excessive body odor can seriously be a source of discomfort for people around you and quite embarrassing for you. It is also a big turn off!

Do you apply a lot of perfume and deodorants before leaving home? Wondering why the unpleasant smell still emanates from you? Well, first of all, perfumes do not really last very long and even if they do, their smell starts to fade and at the end of the day, you have to deal with your body smell. But, don’t curse yourself too much because it is not really in your hands.

A lot of people have overactive sweat glands, which is responsible for causing the unpleasant and strong odor. But, it is not really sweat that is causing the odor, but sweat mixed with bacteria. The odor becomes even stronger in a moist, warm environment, and therefore, you hear people standing next to you in buses or metros complain!

There are, of course, other reasons that lead to causing an offensive body smell including nutrient deficiency, poor hygiene, gastrointestinal problems, such as chronic constipation or underlying medical problems like, liver disease, genetic metabolic disorder or diabetes.

The main symptom of offensive odor is a pungent, unusual smell emanating from the body. Other symptoms are weight loss, excessive sweating, cold hands and night sweats.

If you are experiencing any of the above-mentioned symptoms, don’t feel disheartened because you’re certainly not alone and there are ways by which you can fix the smell – without taking help of the over-the-counter, risk-laden pharmaceutical drugs! You can visit a naturopathy doctor to ask for natural therapies and recommendations, and in the meantime, you can follow the given home remedies to keep the smell under control.

Here, take a look at the tried and tested home remedies for body odor.

# Apple cider vinegar

The world is already going gaga over apple cider vinegar due to its magical powers in inducing weight loss. You can add removing body odor to the list of wonderful benefits of apple cider vinegar, as well. In fact, it is a very powerful bacteria-fighting ingredient, which helps to fight body smell by balancing the pH level of the skin. Know how to use apple cider vinegar for your body odor:

  • Take a cotton ball and soak it in apple cider vinegar. Rub the soaked cotton ball on your underarm. Wait for about 3 minutes before taking a shower. Follow this 2 times every day until you notice any improvement.
  • Add 2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to a glass of warm water, along with a little honey. Drink it 3 times a day before you eat your meals.
  • Add apple cider vinegar in lukewarm bath water and soak yourself in that water for at least 10 minutes every day.

# Baking soda

Did you know that people usually put a box of baking soda in their fridge so that it absorbs all the smelly food odors? Well, it sort of works the same way for body odors, as well. It absorbs all the moisture and sweat from the skin, and reduces the offensive odor. It even kills the bacteria and acts like a natural deodorant. You can use it in the following 2 ways:

  • Mix equal amounts of cornstarch and baking soda, and directly apply it onto your underarms. Make sure that your underarms are dry. This method is particularly helpful if you need to prevent sweating and bad odor for a really long time.
  • Mix lemon juice and baking soda, and apply it onto your underarms, as well as, other parts of your body from where you sweat profusely. Leave the mixture for some time and simply wash it with water.

# Lemon juice

Naturopathy doctors believe that lemon juice is excellent for treating bad, smelly body odor. Lemon juice has an acidic property, which is particularly helpful in lowering the pH level of the skin. This makes it extremely difficult for the odor-inducing bacteria to survive. You can use them in any one of the 2 ways or both:

  • Do you have sensitive skin? If yes, dilute fresh lemon juice in half a cup of water and then apply it onto your underarms by using a cotton ball. Let it be for about ten minutes and wash it off.
  • Get a fresh lemon and cut it into two halves and rub one half onto your underarms and other places where you sweat a lot. Make sure to squeeze the juice while rubbing so that you the juice touch your skin. Let it dry for sometime before taking a shower.
